One in Comforting Saints

"The God of all comfort" (2Co_1:3).

1. The Father Comforts Saints

"God, even our Father, which hath given us everlasting consolation" (2Th_2:16).

It might be argued that anybody can give comfort. This is true in a sense, yet only God can comfort with an everlasting consolation. Only God can comfort by holding before us an assured and eternal rest. It is wonderful how Deity enfolds the sons of men in His arms. He hath written our names upon the epaulets of His shoulders–the place of His strength; He hath carved our names upon the breastplate of His heart–in the place of His affection; He hath engraved our names in the palms of His hands–the place of His helpfulness.

2. The Son Comforts Saints

"If there be any consolation in Christ, if any comfort" (Php_2:21).

John is not the only one who has leaned upon the Master's breast; all those who truly know the Lord may also know His rest. He says, "Come unto Me all ye that are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, * * and ye shall find rest to your souls.

3. The Spirit Comforts Saints

"Walking * * in the comfort of the Holy Ghost" (Act_9:31).

The Holy Ghost is called the "Comforter."

He walks at our side; He holds our hand; He cheers our heart.

There is never a night so dark but that He is near; never a task so heavy that He doth not help. He too is "the God of all comfort."
