Three Distinct Persons Are Seen in Peter's Message On Election
"Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus Christ" (1Pe_1:2).
Peter's message emphasizes the distinctive place of each person in the Trinity in the work of redemption.
It is the Father Who plans redemption; it is the Son Who presents the Blood as the price of redemption, and it is the Spirit Who puts into operation the efficacy of the Blood in redemption.
The Father is the originating power; the Son is the procuring power; and the Spirit is the operating power.
The Father is not the Son nor the Spirit, although both the Son and the Spirit were one with the Father in election and in foreordination.
The Son is neither the Father nor the Spirit, although the Father and the Spirit were with the Son in His sacrificial work.
The Spirit is neither the Father nor the Son, although both the Father and the Son co-operate with the Spirit in making operative the shed Blood.
Blessed thought, transcending comprehension, one God, but three distinct persons.
