Three Distinct Persons Are Seen in John's Vision of the Throne

"And One sat on the throne.

"In the midst of the throne * * stood a Lamb.

"Seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God" (Rev_4:2; Rev_5:6; Rev_4:5).

Between the scene just mentioned in the salutation of Revelation, and the scene now before us lies the period known as the Church age. We are transported beyond the period of the "Rapture" and are standing before the throne that is set in the Heavens. Upon the throne the Father, the Ancient of Days, is sitting. He holds in His hand a Book which is sealed with seven seals.

The Son, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah–the Lamb of God–steps forth and takes the Book from the hand of Him Who sits upon the throne.

About the throne is the Holy Spirit, described as the seven lamps of fire burning before the throne even the Seven Spirits of God. The Spirit is set forth in His sevenfold perfection: "The Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of council and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord."

It is impossible to conceive in the vision above noted that the One Who takes the Book, is the same as the One Who gives the Book; that the One Who stands before the throne, is the One Who sits upon the throne; that the Holy Spirit Who is before the throne, is the same as the Father Who sits upon the throne, or as the Son Who stands in the midst of the throne.

There are three distinct persons, but one God. To that one God manifested in three persons, archangel and angel, together with the redeemed of earth join in the glad acclaim of Heavenly worship.
