1642. The Noahic Remnant

1642. The Noahic Remnant

The Noahic Remnant

"But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord" (Gen_6:8)

After man had been created upon the earth, satan, got busy. It was not long until men began to multiply and daughters were born unto them.

1. The Sin of Early Days

The earth became corrupted; "the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."

2. The Judgment Sent Forth

"And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth."

This judgment was carried out by the deluge, and God destroyed all flesh wherein was the breath of life, and everything that was in the earth died.

3. God's Grace Manifested

"But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord."

The man Noah was a just man, and perfect in his generation, and Noah walked with God.

We see here that there was a remnant even in earth's earliest ages, and the grace of God was manifested in behalf of that remnant.

4. God's Election Was Secured

To Noah God said;

"With thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy son's wives with thee."

The Lord God in elective purpose had promised unto Adam that the seed of the woman should bruise the serpent's head. When His judgments were about to overwhelm a world ripened in sin, in order that His purpose according to election might stand, He saved Noah and his family as a remnant through which He might establish His covenant.

5. God's Promise Was Emphasized

Unto Noah God gave His blessing, and He said unto him: "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth."

And God said:

"This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth."

God proposes to work out His plan through Noah, a remnant, and to him He gives His promise and His pledge.

6. A Word of Protection

In order that God might fulfil His promise and work out His election of grace, He put His arms of protection around Noah. First He protected him from the flood; He said, "Come thou and all thy house into the ark." In after years, God put His hand of love upon Noah and blessed him and his seed.
