1643. The Abrahamic Remnant

1643. The Abrahamic Remnant

The Abrahamic Remnant

"Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee" (Gen_12:1).

1. The Sin of Abrahamic Days

Following the days of Noah, people once more multiplied upon the earth.

"And the whole earth was one language and one speech."

At this time men journeyed from the East and they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. The story of the building of Babel's tower and of man's boastful cry is well known.

Once more sin abounded upon the face of the earth.

2. The Judgment Sent Forth

"And the Lord said, * * Let us go down, and there confound their language."

"So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of the earth."

This confounding of the language, scattering of the people, and overthrow of their purpose in the building of Babel, was God's judgment sent forth.

3. God's Grace Manifested

"What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; * * Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace."

When God overwhelmed the peoples with judgment, He was gracious unto Abraham, the man who believed and trusted Him.

4. God's Election Was Secured

"The Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly."

God's elective grace promised in the Garden, was guarded first in the Noahic remnant, and now in Abrahamic. God had spoken and He would not draw back His hand. God works out through His remnant the perfecting of His plans.

5. God's Promise Was Emphasized

God said unto Abraham:

"I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

Unto this day, God's promise to Abraham stands unannulled, He hath not forgotten what He pledged to His servant.

6. A Word of Protection

Many were the vicissitudes that befell Abraham, but he was chosen of God and precious, he was a remnant through whom God was working out His mighty plans, therefore God shielded and protected him.

God protected Abraham from Pharaoh while he was in Egypt.

God protected Abraham from Abimelech.

God protected Abraham from all the nations among whom he dwelt.
