1674. Making Unscriptural Demands
Making Unscriptural Demands
"For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers" (Mat_23:4).
The Pharisees were not content with following the plain demands of the Word of God. They added their traditions; they sought to place upon the people a yoke, which they themselves could not bear.
Do we not find in this an analogy of elders who are making demands of the saints in our own day? They formulate programs, with money assessments, which tie up churches for years to come.
This is only one of the ways in which present-day Pharisees bind burdens and lay them on men's shoulders.
We confess Christ as Lord and Master. We take His yoke, bear His burden and follow Him, we will not be servants of men.
