II. Men Must Not Have Precedence Over Christ

On the Mount of Transfiguration, the disciples suggested that three tabernacles be builded, one for Moses, one for Elias, and one for Christ.

God quickly rebuked them, and pronounced Jesus Christ, as His Son, His chosen One.

We are plainly taught that Jesus Christ must be all in all.

In the Church of Corinth, there was "envying, and strife, and divisions." The Corinthians were walking as men. One said, I am of Paul; another, I am of Apollos; another, I am of Cephas. For this they were rebuked, for they were all of Christ (see 1Co_3:3; 1Co_1:12).

Do we not read: "Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men" (1Co_7:23)? Christians have no right to build up a cult around a man nor to name a church after a man, nor in any way to give undue prominence unto man.

If we are men-pleasers, we are not the servants of Christ. The call of the Bible is–"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches" (Rev_3:6).

May God save our churches from worshiping men, and from bowing down before them.
