1720. The Stone Smiting
The Stone Smiting
"Thou sawest till that a Stone was cat out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces" (Dan_2:34).
The Stone that was smitten, must smite.
He who once was placed within the wine-press, while His Blood shot forth, shall, Himself, "tread them in His anger," and "trample them in His wrath;" and "their blood shall be sprinkled upon His garments," and "stain all His raiment."
Daniel described Nebuchadnezzar's dream. He had seen, in vision, a great colossus, its head was of gold, its chest of silver, its torso of brass, its legs of iron, and its toes of iron mixed with clay.
Nebuchadnezzar saw: "Till that a Stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the Stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth" (Dan_2:34-35).
Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that the Stone that was cut out of the mountain without hands, signified that in the day of the ten kings, typified by the ten toes, the God of Heaven would set up a Kingdom which should never be destroyed.
1. The Stone was the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. The Stone was cut out of the mountain because Christ, after the flesh, came from Israel.
3. The Stone was cut without hands, because Jesus Christ was born of a virgin.
4. The Stone brake in pieces, because Jesus Christ is coming in consuming judgment against the Gentile nations.
5. The Stone filled the whole earth, because the Lord Jesus shall reign as King on David's throne, and as King over the whole earth.
Nebuchadnezzar's dream was certain, and Daniel's interpretation was sure.
Let us be looking forward to the day when the Stone that is now the Head of the corner, shall come forth in the power of the Father and the holy angels, smiting all that lifts up its head against the God of Heaven.
