402. Who Are the "Blessed" We So Often Read About in the Bible?

They are whom God chooses and calls (Psa_65:4; Isa_51:2; Rev_19:9); they know Christ and his Gospel, believe and are not offended at Christ (Mat_16:16-17; Psa_89:15; Mat_11:16; Luk_1:45). Their sins are forgiven and God imputes to them righteousness without works (Psa_32:1-2; Rom_4:6-9). But at times they are chastened, and suffer for Christ, but they are not hurt thereby as they trust in God, fear him, yes have their strength in him (Job_5:17; Luk_6:22;Psa_2:12; Psa_112:1; Psa_84:5). Therefore they delight in his commandments and keep them, they hunger and thirst after righteousness, frequent the house of the Lord waiting for him (Psa_112:1; Rev_22:14; Mat_5:6; Psa_65:4; Isa_30:18). When in contact with the world they avoid the wicked, endure temptation, watch against sin: are undented, pure in heart, just, righteous, faithful, poor in spirit, meek, merciful, bountiful and are peacemakers (Psa_1:1; Jam_1:12;Rev_16:15; Psa_119:1; Mat_5:8; Psa_106:3; Psa_5:12; Pro_28:20; Mat_5:3; Mat_5:31; Mat_5:5; Mat_5:7; Luk_14:13, Mat_5:9). Watching for the Lord, they die in him, have part in the first resurrection and shall eat bread in the kingdom of God (Luk_12:37; Rev_14:13; Rev_20:6; Luk_14:15; Rev_19:9).
