235. Confession
Confession means more than profession. Confession means to stand with, to be in agreement with, the thing or person to whom reference is made.
1. Confession of Sins. “If we confess our sins” (1Jn_1:9).
2. Confession of Christ. “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Christ is born of God” (1Jn_4:15).
3. Confession of Salvation. “With the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom_10:10).
4. Confession of Jesus as Lord. “If thou shalt confess Jesus as Lord” (Rom_10:9, R.V.).
5. Confession to the Name. “The fruit of our lips which make confession to His Name” (Heb_13:15).
6. Confession of Separation. “Confessed they were strangers and pilgrims” (Heb_11:13).
7. Christ’s Own Confession. “Witnessed the good confession” (1Ti_6:13, R.V.).
Ponder Timothy’s example—1Ti_6:12; the Spirit’s exhortation—Heb_4:14, R.V.; and Christ’s promise—Luk_12:8.
