“Shew Piety at Home” 1Ti_5:4

“What politics is your husband?” asked a canvasser concerning the absent spouse; and the wife replied: “Well, it’s like this—sometimes he goes to a Liberal meeting, and then he’s a Liberal; sometimes he goes to a Conservative meeting, and then he’s a Conservative.” “But,” demanded the canvasser, “what is he when he is at home?” “Oh, then,” explained the wife, “then he’s an old nuisance.”

What we are at home is the test of what we are at all.

What should we be at home?

1. Witnesses, to tell what the Lord has done for us, as Christ told the saved demoniac—Mar_5:19.

2. Receivers, to entertain Christ, as He said to Zaccheus, “Today I must abide at thy home.” (The word “house” in Luk_19:5, is rendered “home” in 1Co_11:34.)

3. Consistent Ones, for we are “first to shew piety at home” (1Ti_5:4).

4. Faithful Ones, like Moses, who was “faithful in all his house,” or “home” (Heb_3:2, Heb_3:5).

5. Prayerful Intercessors, like Cornelius, who prayed in his house or home—Act_10:30.
