448. “If Any Man”

The universality of Christ’s invitations and claims is comprehensively revealed in the sentence, “If any man,” as found in John’s Gospel.

1. Eternal Life. “If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever” (Joh_6:51). Eternal life has to do with the Being of God, and is the positive blessing of the Gospel.

2. Secret of Knowledge. “If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine” (Joh_7:17). The secrets of the Lord are with them who fear Him.

3. Satisfaction. “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink” (Joh_7:37). He wants everything, who wants Christ, and He is the Meeter of every need.

4. Salvation. “If any man enter in, he shall be saved” (Joh_10:9). Christ is the entrance to every blessing.

5. Walk. “If any man walketh in the day, he stumbleth not” (Joh_21:9). To walk in the light is the soul of right.

6. Following Christ. “If any man serve Me, let him follow Me” (Joh_12:26). The way to serve Him is to follow Him.

7. Honoured. “If any man serve Me, him will My Father honour” (Joh_12:26). What is done to Christ is reckoned by the Father as done to Him.

8. Judgment. “If any man hear My words, and believe not… the Word I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (Joh_12:47-48). How men treat Christ and His Word is the basis of judgment.
