467. Israel: God’s Peculiar People
1. Peculiar in Choice. “Thou shalt be blessed above all people” (Deu_7:14). The act of Jehovah was selective and elective.
2. Peculiar in Place. “The people shall dwell alone” (Num_23:9). Separated from the rest of the nations, and to the Land of Palestine.
3. Peculiar in Title. “His peculiar people” (Deu_26:18), and “treasure” (Exo_19:5), and “My people” (Exo_8:1).
4. Peculiar in Affection. “Yea, He loved the people” (Deu_33:3), not because they were worthy, but because He would.
5. Peculiar in Purpose. “Thou art a holy people unto the Lord.” “Special people unto Himself” (Deu_7:6).
6. Peculiar in Relationship. “Treasure unto Me above all people” (Exo_19:5). The jewels of the Lord are found in those whom He calls so frequently “My people.”
7. Peculiar in Covenant. “His holy covenant” (Luk_1:68-72). See also Exo_2:24; Exo_6:4-5; Deu_5:3. He pledges Himself with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob to bless His people Israel.
