907. Troubled Ones
1. A Striking Simile. “The wicked are like the troubled sea” (Isa_57:20). Sin is the rest-destroyer and the soul-annoyer.
2. An Agonised Saviour. “Now is My soul troubled” (Joh_12:27). The hour of His woe was caused by the guilt of our wickedness.
3. A Defeated Company. “Why hast thou troubled us?” (Jos_7:25). An Achan in the midst will cause defeat in the war.
4. A Distressed Saint. “Thou didst hide Thy face, and I was troubled” (Psa_30:7). The Lord’s hidings are for the believer’s testings.
5. A Cumbered Servant. “Martha… thou art careful and troubled about many things” (Luk_10:41). To serve the Lord is good, but to be cumbered with serving is bad.
6. A Convicted Brotherhood. “They were troubled at his presence” (Gen_45:3). A bad conscience will prick the heart to its possessor’s confusion.
7. A Routed Foe. “Troubled the host of the Egyptians” (Exo_14:24). “The troublers of God’s people are sure to be troubled by the Lord” (2Th_1:7).
