925. Vicariousness
“Who gave Himself a ransom (antilutron) for all” (1Ti_2:6). How frequently the Holy Spirit reminds us of the fact, “Christ died.”
1. “He died unto sin once” (Rom_6:10). The sufficiency of His death.
2. “He died for the ungodly and sinners” (Rom_5:6, Rom_5:8). The subjects for whom He died.
3. “Christ died… risen” (Rom_8:34). The necessary accompaniment.
4. “Christ died for our sins” (1Co_15:3). The thing for which He died.
5. “One died for all” (2Co_5:14). Hence, all believers died with Him.
6. “He died for all” (2Co_5:15). That believers might live to Him.
7. “Jesus died and rose again” (1Th_4:14). And that is the guarantee that the sleeping and living ones shall be glorified—1Th_5:10.
