Let's Open The Book! – Bible study

Someone has said, “A Bible in the hand is worth two on the shelf.” Let’s carry that saying a step farther and say, “A Bible in our hand isn’t worth much if it is not”:

  • Opened because we can’t read a Bible that we do not open (Nehemiah 8:5).
  • Read because we can’t understand the Bible that we do not read (Nehemiah 8:8).
  • Understood because we can’t obey the instructions in the Bible that we don’t understand (Nehemiah 8:8; Ephesians 3:3-4).
  • Obeyed because we can’t be saved by the saving words of the Bible if it is not opened, read, understood and obeyed (Romans 1:16; Romans 6:17).

We may have several Bibles in our home, but they are of no value to us as long as all of them remain closed, We might as well not have the Bible as to have it and not use it. In fact, we do not really have it unless its message is transferred from its pages to our heart and becomes the living Word in our lives (Romans 6:17; Hebrews 4:12).

Brethren and friends, let’s not only open, read, and study the Bible (Nehemiah 8:5; Ephesians 3:3-4; 2 Timothy 2:15 ASV), let’s make application of its precepts in our daily living. (Hebrews 5:14; cf. Psalm 119:104; Philippians 1:9-11).
