“Buy The Truth And Sell It Not” – Bible study

In the 2009, Volume 47, Number 4 issue of The Sword and Staff publication, editor James E. Gibbons emphasizes the following need in his article entitled, The Truth Love It, Or Lose It!:

We need to recognize the priceless value of truth, appreciate it, and love it!

Brother Gibbons then quotes from Proverbs 23:23 KJV:

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

The two above related truths need to be taught and emphasized in the church of our Lord today, for we are being bombarded from every direction by many detractors of the truth, their detraction being caused by their “lusting” for the things of the world rather than adhering to the truth found in Gods word (2 Timothy 4:1-5 KJV).

Brethren, as Christians, we have been entrusted with the responsibility of upholding Gods truth, no matter who our detractors are (1 Thessalonians 2:4-8; cf. 2 Timothy 1:13-14; 1 Timothy 6:20-21; Titus 1:3,9).

We are not to sell out Gods truth to the highest worldly bidder! (2 Peter 2:1-3).
