CATECHISM

CATECHISM

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

The Bible, Psalm 34:11

Being a form of instruction for children in the doctrine of Christ

In this confused and divided state of Christendom, I judge it useful that there should be public testimonies, whereby churches which, though widely separated by space, agree in the doctrine of Christ, may mutually recognize each other.

John Calvin

Q. What is your only comfort in life and death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to Him, Christ, His Holy Spirit assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

Heidelberg Catechism

I am persuaded that the use of a good Catechism in all our families will be a great safeguard against the increasing errors of the times. Those who use [them] in their families or classes must labor to explain the sense; but the words should be carefully learned by heart, for they will be understood better as years pass.

C.H. Spurgeon
