LAW is like a standard transmission. Most people don’t even use those anymore. They were a lot of work to drive. Then they came up with the automatic transmission. With the standard transmission, the driver had to work hard to move from one gear to the next. With an automatic transmission, the car switches gears itself. Automatic transmissions work to make the changes naturally that the driver used to have to make manually.

The law of sin is like trying to live life on the standard transmission. It involves a person to make all of the changes themselves. They have to do their own adjusting, twisting, pushing, and they have to do it all at the right time. With an automatic, we don’t think twice about clutches; we don’t have to think twice about gears. All of those changes are already built into the transmission. The law of sin and death confines. The law of the Spirit frees.548
