THE LAW of sin and death is like the law of gravity, which states that what goes up must come down. It is a law that is universal to our world. No matter how high you try to move up and away, gravity is going to pull you down. If you jump up, gravity says, “Come back here.” It’s going to pull you down every time.

Isn’t that what we do in our Christian life? We get all excited on Sunday and try to jump. We say we are going to live for God, and before Monday comes, gravity pulls us down. We make New Year’s resolutions, trying to jump even higher. Gravity won’t let us. We make promises to ourselves and gravity yanks us back. That’s the law of sin and death. It always pulls us down no matter how high we try and jump.554
