In the translation for the Mumac Indians of Nova Scotia, Matthew 24:7, instead of reading, “Nation shall rise against nation,” reads, “A pair of snowshoes shall rise against a pair of snowshoes.” The difference was made by the misplacement of one letter: “Naooktukumiksijik,” meaning nation, “Naooktakumiksijik,” meaning snowshoe.
“PRINTERS’” BIBLE
The “Printers’” Bible in 1702 managed to replace the word “princes,” with “printers.” So Psalm 119:161 read, “printers have persecuted me.”
“PLACE-MAKER’S” BIBLE
The Geneva Bible of 1562 misprinted Matthew 5:9 as, “Blessed are the place-makers.”
“HE” BIBLE
The first edition of the King James Version, printed by Robert Barker, early in 1611, is sometimes referred to as the “He” Bible because of its incorrect translation of Ruth 3:15 as, “… He went into the city.”
“GOOD LUCK” BIBLE
Coverdale translated Psalm 129:8, “We wish you good luck in the name of the Lord.”
“BUG” BIBLE
Coverdale translated Psalm 91:5, “Thou shalt not nede to be afrayed for eny bugges by night.”
“BREECHES” BIBLE
The Geneva Bible, first published in 1560, was called the “Breeches” Bible by booksellers because of the unusual way in which it translated Genesis 3:7, “They sewed fig leaves together and made themselves breeches.”
“ACHING” BIBLE
Oxford Press once paid two guineas for the loss of two letters. Two readers independently found that Matthew 26:55 was printed, “Christ was aching in the Temple,” and were given a guinea each for their discovery.
