PRAYER:
EXPECTATION
There must be expectation. We’ve got to point up our prayers. I have said it before and repeat it, that one of the greatest snares in praying is to pray vaguely. I used to go out rifle shooting in the state of Pennsylvania. I still like to when I get out that way. I used to enjoy using a big gun, like an eight millimeter or a 30–30, because the thing would go “Boom!” and the smoke would fly and I’d almost fall over and I felt really big. But if I’d been shooting at something, I was red-faced because I’d usually miss it.
And when a man prays vaguely, he makes a big boom and others say, “Oh, he is a praying man.” But what is he praying about? Has God heard his prayer, or is he just shooting at a cloud? How do you know if he hits it or not? He is shooting at the side of a barn.
