And Jehoiada [was] the leader of the Aaronites, and with him [were] three thousand and seven hundred;

27. of the Aaronites ] R.V. of the house of Aaron. Jehoiada was not high-priest, but leader of the warriors of the house of Aaron. He may be the same person as the father of Benaiah (1Ch 11:22). Leader (Heb. nagd) is the title given to the “Captain” of the Temple (1Ch 9:11, A.V. “ruler”).

(27) And Jehoiada . . .Literally, And Jehoiada the prince (hannagd, 1Ch. 9:11; 1Ch. 9:20) belonging to Aaron. Aaronis used as the name of the leading clan of Levi. Jehoiada is perhaps father of the Benaiah of 1Ch. 11:22. He was not high priest (Abiathar, 1Sa. 23:9), but head of the warriors of his clan. It is not clear whether the 3,700 are included in the 4,600 of 1Ch. 12:26 or not. Probably not.
