Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.

28. with shouting ] The Heb. word ( tr‘ah) is technical in the sense of a blast with the festal trumpets (Num 10:1-10), and in this sense it should be taken here, since the Chronicler has expanded the account given in Samuel by introducing a mention of these trumpets.

(28) Thus all Israel brought.And all Israel were bringing. Samuel has and David and all the house of Israel, and ark of the Lord.

Cornet.Rather, trumpet.

The rest of this verse is wanting in Samuel, but all the additional instruments have already been mentioned (1Ch. 15:16-21).

Trumpets.Clarions, or straight trumpets.

The last clause should be rendered, and with clanging cymbals, with harps and lutes. (Comp. Psa. 150:3-4.)

the cornet: Jerome on Hos 5:8, says this instrument is properly called in Greek , from [Strong’s G2768], a horn. The trumpets were, according to Josephus, made of metal, and about a cubit in length. See note on Num 10:2.
