So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled [it] on the altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood upon the altar.

22. received the blood ] In basins with which they dashed (not “sprinkled”) the blood against the altar. This dashing was different from the sprinkling with the finger.

So they killed the bullocks,…. The seven bullocks, that is, the priests killed them:

and the priests received the blood; into basins provided for that purpose:

and sprinkled it on the altar; according to the law of Moses, Le 1:5 and so they did with the rams and lambs.

(22) Received the blood.Caught it in bowls of sprinkling (Num. 8:14).

And sprinkled it on the altar.Threw it against (literally, towards) the altar (Lev. 8:19; Lev. 8:24).

Likewise, when.And they slaughtered the rams . . . and they slaughtered the lambs. The three clauses of the verse are symmetrical. The repetition is a mark of the writers anxiety to show how carefully the legitimate ritual was observed in each instance.

Killed.Slaughtered (shahat; , Gen. 37:31). Specially used of slaying sacrificial victims (Lev. 1:5).
