Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.
12. Also in Judah the hand of God was ] R.V. Also in Judah was the hand of God, i.e. the mighty working of God which brought some penitents from far parts of Israel manifested itself in Judah also.
the commandment of the king by the word of the Lord ] The king’s command was according to God’s command in the Law.

i.e. God by the power of his grace inclined their hearts to a unanimous compliance with Gods and the kings will. And this is mentioned as the reason of this wonderful change wrought in these men, who had lately been utterly averse from Gods worship, and wholly given up to idolatry; as was noted before on 2Ch 29:36.

Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart,…. To make them unanimous in this service, hearty and willing to it, to a man, which was owing to the power and efficacy of divine grace:
to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the Lord; to keep the passover, which they did not only in obedience to their superiors, and their orders, but considering these as agreeable to the word and will of God.

Also upon Judah came the hand of God, to give them one heart, to do… The phrase has usually a punitive signification (cf. Exo 9:3; Deu 2:15, etc.), but here it is the helping hand of God. God wrought powerfully upon Judah to make them of one mind. as in 2Ch 29:15.

(12) Also in Judah . . . was.Rather, Moreover upon Judah was the hand of God: a phrase here used of a Divine influence for good. (Comp. Ezr. 8:22.) Elsewhere the phrase has the sense of judicial visitation; e.g., Exo. 9:3.
The commandment . . . by the word of the Lord.Comp. the like phrase, 2Ch. 29:15. The royal command was inspired by the word of the Lord through a prophet.

This is a beautiful account of Judah; and their unanimity on this solemn occasion. No doubt the thing was of the Lord. Oh! dearest Jesus! how sweet is it when thy churches, like that of old, are of one heart and one soul; all striving for the faith of the gospel. Act 4:32 .
