And in the feasts, and in the solemnities,…. Or, “appointed times” l; for public worship, for the ministration of the word and ordinances, which are feasts and solemn seasons;

[See comments on Eze 45:15]. Kimchi observes a difference between these two; and that though all feasts are called solemnities, or fixed seasons, Le 23:4, yet there are some solemnities that are not feasts, Ge 1:14:

the meat offering shall be an ephah to a bullock, and to the lambs as he is able to give, and an hin of oil to an ephah; the same to be done on all feasts and solemnities as on the sabbath day;

5. The offering of the prince on behalf of the people.

(46:1115)

TRANSLATION

(11) And in the feasts and in the solemnities the meal-offering shall be an ephah for a bullock, and an ephah for a ram, and for the lambs as he is able to give and a hin of oil to an ephah. (12)

And when the prince shall prepare a freewill-offering, a burnt-offering or peace-offerings as a freewill-offering unto the LORD, one shall open for him the gate that looks toward the east; and he shall prepare his burnt-offering and his peace-offerings, as he does on the sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate. (13) And you shall prepare a lamb a year old without blemish for a burnt-offering unto the LORD daily: morning by morning you shall prepare it. (14) And you shall prepare a meal-offering with ii morning by morning, the sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of a hin of oil, to moisten the fine flour; a meal-offering unto the LORD continually by a perpetual ordinance. (15) Thus shall they prepare the lamb, and the meal-offering, and the oil, morning by morning, for a continual burnt-offering.

COMMENTS

On all feasts (e.g., Pentecost) and appointed seasons (e.g., New Years, Day of Atonement) the prince had the obligation to provide meal offerings as well as animals for sacrifice. He was required to offer an ephah of meal for each bullock or ram; for each lamb he would make a voluntary contribution of meal. Each ephah of meal was to be accompanied by a hin of oil (Eze. 46:11).

If the prince should desire to offer a free-will offering on a weekday, the eastern gate of the inner court would be opened for him. Upon his departure the gate was to be closed again. Only on sabbath days was the eastern gate left open all day so that worshipers might view the sacrificial ritual (Eze. 46:12).

Every day sacrifices were to be offered by the priests upon the great Temple altar. A lamb was to be offered and a meal-offering as well (Eze. 46:13-15). No mention is made here of an evening offering (cf. Num. 28:4 f)[538]

[538] The amount of the meal offering also differs from that prescribed in Numbers.

(11) And in the solemnities.The new rules for the proportion of the meat offering, as laid down in Eze. 46:5; Eze. 46:7, Eze. 45:24, are here repeated for the feast days; and it is added that the same is to hold for all established seasons, a different proportion being prescribed only for the daily sacrifice (Eze. 46:14).

11, 12. When the prince, in addition to the sacrifices required by law, brings a personal “freewill offering” (compare Exo 35:29; Lev 22:23) he shall enter the temple just as on the Sabbath and new moons, but the gate shall be closed immediately upon his departure, instead of remaining open until evening, as in the other cases (Eze 46:2), for the accommodation of other worshipers interested in the sacrifices. (See note preceding; in regard to the offerings in Eze 46:11, see note on Eze 46:4-7.)

The Meal Offerings At The Feasts and The Appointed Times ( Eze 46:11 ).

“And at the feasts and at the appointed times the meal offering shall be an ephah for a bullock and an ephah for a ram and for the lambs as he is able to give, and a hin of oil to an ephah.

The importance of the meal offering comes out in its re-emphasis here. These were offerings of which the priests partook, it was a most holy offering (Lev 3:2). Once again mention is made of the prince’s ability to provide sometimes more, sometimes less. This would depend on what the harvests had been like (Eze 45:15). ‘The appointed times’ are presumably the new moons and sabbaths.

NASB (UPDATED) TEXT: Eze 46:11-12

11At the festivals and the appointed feasts the grain offering shall be an ephah with a bull and an ephah with a ram, and with the lambs as much as one is able to give, and a hin of oil with an ephah. 12When the prince provides a freewill offering, a burnt offering, or peace offerings as a freewill offering to the Lord, the gate facing east shall be opened for him. And he shall provide his burnt offering and his peace offerings as he does on the sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and the gate shall be shut after he goes out.
