Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Exodus 23:26
There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill.
Verse 26. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren] Hence there must be a very great increase both of men and cattle.
The number of thy days I will fulfil.] Ye shall all live to a good old age, and none die before his time. This is the blessing of the righteous, for wicked men live not out half their days; Ps 55:23.

Here was a double mercy. God gave them strength both to conceive, and to retain the conception till the natural and proper time of bringing forth came.
The number of thy days I will fulfil; I will preserve thee so as thou shalt live as long as the course of nature and temper of thy body will permit, when evil men shall not live out half their days, Psa 55:23.

There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren in the land,…. There shall be no abortions or miscarriages, nor sterility or barrenness, either among the Israelites, or their cattle of every kind, so that there should be a great increase, both of men and beasts:
the number of thy days I will fulfil; which was fixed for each of them, in his eternal purposes and decrees; or what, according to the temperament of their bodies and the course of nature, which, humanly speaking, it might be supposed they would arrive unto; or generally the common term of human life, which, in the days of Moses, was threescore years and ten, or fourscore, see Job 14:5, it may be considered whether any respect is had to the time of their continuance in the land of Canaan, the term of which was fixed in the divine mind, or the fulness of time in which the Messiah was to come.

Verses 26-33:
Jehovah had given the Land to Israel, but they must possess it for their own heritage. He graciously promised to fight for them, both by natural and supernatural means. “Hornets” tsirah, “wasps,” may be taken either literally, as the insect which can literally drive men from any given area by their vicious stings, even causing death; or figuratively, to denote plagues or troubles of various kinds.
Three of Canaan’s nations are mentioned in this text, as a common figure of speech in which the part is put for the whole. These three were the strongest of Canaan’s tribes.
The dispossession of the Canaanites was to be gradual. This would insure that the land would not be overrun by wild beasts, but that it would continue to be cultivated until Jehovah was ready to give it to Israel.
Jehovah’s command was two-fold: some of the Canaanites were to be slain; some were to be “driven out” of the land. History reveals this was literally true. The Hittites retired northward and strengthened the great Hittite Kingdom which contended with both Assyria and Egypt.

(26) There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren.Abortions, untimely births, and barrenness, when they exceeded a certain average amount, were always reckoned in the ancient world among the signs of Gods disfavour, and special expiatory rites were devised for checking them. Conversely, when such misfortunes fell short of the ordinary average, Gods favour was presumed. The promises here made confirm mans instinctive feeling.
The number of thy days I will fulfil.Comp. Exo. 20:12. Long life is always regarded in Scripture as a blessing. (Comp. Psa. 55:23; Psa. 90:10; Job. 5:26; Job. 42:16-17; 1Ki. 3:11; Isa. 65:20; Eph. 6:3, &c.)
