Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Acts 10:32
Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of [one] Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
32. who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee ] These words are not in the oldest MSS., though they are found in some very good authorities.

The substance of this verse is in Act 10:5,6 which we read before. Cornelius might say this to excuse his sending for Peter, being a stranger to him; as also to encourage Peter to speak in such a matter as God had appeared in.

1) “Send therefore to Joppa,”(pempson oun eis loppen) “Send (inquiry) therefore to Joppa,” send a summons to Joppa, the seacoast city some 30 miles south of Caesarea, Act 11:4-5; Act 11:13.
2) “And call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter;(kai metakalesai Simona hos epiikaleitai Petros) “And call for (summon) Simon who is surnamed Peter,” the specific preaching, miracle working Apostle called Peter, Act 10:5.
3) “He is lodged in the house of one,”(houtos ksenzetai en oikia) “This man (this particular Simon Peter) is lodged or living (now residing) in a house,” Act 10:5-6.
4) “Simon a tanner by the sea side:”(Simonas burseos para thalassan) “Of Simon, a tanner alongside the seashore,” or by the sea, Act 10:6.
5) “Who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee,” (omitted in Gk. text) Even an accepted, praying, unsaved Gentile man who desired to be saved was rendered without excuse, Joh 7:17; Act 11:14; Rom 2:1.

Act 10:32. Send to Joppa. Cornelius repeats to Peter with exact precision the instructions which had been given in his vision (Act 10:5-6). The city is named to which the message is to be sent, the surname of Peter is given, also the name and trade of his host, and the exact position of his residence. In one respect, in the mention of the house of Simon, this statement is more vivid than the former.
