Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Leviticus 6:6

And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest:

Verse 6. With thy estimation] See Clarke on Le 5:15.

And he shall bring his trespass [offering] unto the Lord,…. That is, to the tabernacle of the Lord, to the altar of the Lord in it, and to his priest ministering therein, as it follows:

a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass [offering] unto the priest; the same offering that was ordered for a trespass through ignorance, Le 5:16 typical of the sacrifice of Christ offered up both for sins of ignorance and wilful transgressions, for his blood cleanses from all sin,

[See comments on Le 5:16]; the phrase “with thy estimation”, used there also Le 5:16, is here interpreted by Ben Gersom of two shekels, the value the ram was to be of, brought for the trespass offering.

(6) With thy estimation. That is, according to the official valuation; the ram is to be so grown up as to be worth two shekels. (See Lev. 5:15.)

6. Unto the Lord Much the most solemn aspect of every evil deed is the side which is contemplated by the moral Governor of the world. The offender must be brought to a vivid realization of the damage done to the cause of religion and the reproach which he has cast upon his God. There must be an atonement to Jehovah as well as a compensation to his fellow-man.

Estimation See note on Lev 5:15.

Did not our LORD sweetly illustrate this, by commanding the sinner that had trespassed against his brother, to seek the pardon of his brother, before he brought his offering to the LORD? Mat 5:23-24 .
