The burnt-offering was presented according to the general rule (Lev 1:3-9), as in Lev 8:18-21. (Lev 9:12): to cause to attain; here, and in Lev 9:18, to present, hand over. , according to its pieces, into which the burnt-offering was divided (Lev 1:6), and which they offered to Aaron one by one. No meat-offering was connected with Aaron’s burnt-offerings, partly because the law contained in Num 15:2. had not yet been given, but more especially because Aaron had to bring the special meat-offering commanded in Lev 6:13, and had offered this in connection with the morning burnt-offering mentioned in Lev 9:17; though this offering, as being a constant one, and not connected with the offerings especially belonging to the consecration of the priests, is not expressly mentioned.

(12) And he slew the burnt offering. As was the order of the sacrifices which Moses brought (see Lev. 8:18-21), so here the sin offering is followed by the burnt offering. The ram (see Lev. 9:2) which constituted this sacrifice Aaron slew at the north side of the altar (see Lev. 1:11), and after the blood had been received into the bowl by his sons who assisted him, and had been handed to him, Aaron sprinkled it around the altar in the same manner as Moses had done before. (See Lev. 8:19.)

12. The burnt offering After they had been brought into a state of acceptance with Jehovah the whole burnt offering, symbolizing entire consecration, was appropriate. See Lev 1:3, note, and Introduction, (5.)

‘And he slew the whole burnt offering, and Aaron’s sons delivered to him the blood, and he sprinkled it on the altar round about.’

Then similar procedures were observed for the whole burnt offering. It was for his atonement and dedication, as well as that of the people. Aaron slew it, his sons caught the blood, and Aaron sprinkled it on all four sides of the altar. Atonement was made and he was thereby dedicated to God.
