But if the bright spot stay in his place, [and] spread not, it [is] a burning boil; and the priest shall pronounce him clean.
23. the scar of the boil ] The Heb. for ‘scar’ occurs only here and in Lev 13:28. It is from a root signifying ‘to burn,’ which is found in Eze 20:47 (Heb. 21:3), ‘all faces shall be burnt.’

(23) But if the bright spot stay.As the spreading of the spot is a sure sign of the disease lurking in the system, its continuing in the same condition showed that it was simply the re-opening of the boil. The priest is therefore to pronounce the patient clean, or clear of leprosy.

23. Bright spot spread not Diffusiveness is the decisive symptom of this disease. For this reason, probably more than any other, Christian writers have employed leprosy as a type of sin, though without any expressed authority in the Holy Scriptures. But see Mat 8:2, note.
