The sons, [I say], of Reuben the firstborn of Israel [were], Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

3. The sons of Reuben ] The same four names (with one unimportant variation in spelling in A.V.) appear Gen 46:9; Exo 6:14.

Hanoch ] the correct spelling of the familiar name Enoch; cp. 1Ch 1:3.

(3) Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.So Gen. 46:9; Exo. 6:14; Num. 26:5-7. Considering the prominence of Hezron and Carmi among the clans of Judah, it is remarkable to find their names recurring among the main branches of Reuben.

The names and settlements of the Reubenites, are here particularly marked. But what a sad proof of degeneracy this tribe afforded, in setting up their residence, the other side of the land of promise. Num 32:1-5 .
