The list is a longone, comprising the chiefs or heads of their several families untilDavid’s reign, who made a new and different classification of them bycourses.

(25) And the sons of Elkanah; Amasai.See last Note. It is natural to identify the Elkanah of 1Ch. 6:36 with this one. The posterity of both are so nearly the same; otherwise we might have taken the present Elkanah for the person mentioned in 1Ch. 6:23.
