Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of 1 Chronicles 6:9

And Ahimaaz begot Azariah, and Azariah begot Johanan,

9. Azariah ] This Azariah rather than the Azariah of 1Ch 6:10 would have been contemporary with Solomon, and therefore the notice attached to the name Azariah in 1Ch 6:10 ( he it is that executed the priest’s office in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem) may really belong to 1Ch 6:9. Cp. 1Ki 4:2.

Ahimaaz begat Azariah – It must, apparently, be this Azariah, and not the son of Johanan 1Ch 6:10, who was high priest at the dedication of Solomons Temple. For Zadok, who lived into the reign of Solomon 1Ki 4:4 cannot have been succeeded by a great-great-grandson. The notice in 1Ch 6:10, which is attached to the second Azariah, must, beyond a doubt, belong properly to the first.
