Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Exodus 6:27
These [are] they which spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these [are] that Moses and Aaron.
27. These were the men commissioned also to speak to the Pharaoh on behalf of Israel: cf. vv. 11, 13. The diffuseness, and repetitions ( vv. 26, 27), are in P’s style: cf Gen 9:16-17 (repetition of vv. 13 15), Gen 17:26-27 (repetition of v. 23), Gen 23:20 (see vv. 17, 18).
It is to be observed that P consistently represents Moses, or his contemporaries, as being in the fourth generation (cf. Gen 15:16) from on or other of Jacob’s sons: thus Levi, Kohath, Amram, Moses (here, vv. 16, 18, 20); Levi, Kohath, Ihar, Kora, ( vv. 16, 18, 21, Num 14:1); Levi, Kohath, Uzziel, Mishael (Lev 10:4); Reuben, Pallu, Eliab, Dathan (Num 26:7-9). On the chronological question involved, see the Introd. p. xlv, and on Exo 12:40.

These are they which spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt,…. In the name of the Lord of hosts; and demanded the dismission of Israel, in order
to bring the children of Israel from Egypt; nor did they desist making application to him, until they had prevailed upon him to let them go:
these are that Moses and Aaron; which is repeated, that it may be observed who were the deliverers of Israel, what their names, of what tribe they were, and from whom they descended, and who sprung from them, at least from Aaron.

“These are that Moses and Aaron.” Exo 6:27 .
Particular circumstances by which men may be distinguished. Moses and Aaron are special names to us, but they might have had contemporaries who bore the same names. Men may have the same names and yet very different natures and functions. Every man should have a certain name indicating spiritual education, position, and influence. The Christian Church should be distinguished as that Church by which light is increased, charity is distributed, and life is ennobled. Whenever any difficulty arises as to the identity of men or institutions, those men and institutions should instantly be known by the breadth of their spiritual life and the reality of their generous service to the world. It will be of little use to be known as that Church with the long creed, that Church with the heavy purse, that Church with the brilliant intellectual ability; all these qualifications may attach to a worldly institution: the Church of Christ is to be known as that Church which is strong in sacrifice and infinite in sympathy.

Ver. 27. These are that Moses and Aaron. ] Before it was Aaron and Moses. It made no matter which was first set: they had their several precellencies; but were so well agreed, that there was no striving for the pre-eminence. See Trapp on “ Exo 6:26 “
