The children of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four.

31. the other Elam ] This title apparently refers back to the Elam mentioned in Ezr 2:7. The fact that the ‘Elam’ of Ezr 2:7 is probably the name of a person and that the Elam here mentioned is found in connexion with the names of towns renders the expression ‘the other’ very strange. Another strange circumstance is the exact correspondence of the numbers in each case, i.e. 1254. The text is not free from suspicion.
