And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

A Zebulonite – The tribe of Zebulon had shown its bravery, patriotism, and prowess in the time of Barak Jdg 4:10; Jdg 5:18.

and he judged Israel ten years; administered justice to them, preserved them in the true religion, and from idolatry; though it does not appear that any enemies arose in his time against them, from whom he delivered them.

(11) Elon.The name means a terebinth. Orientals to this day are often named from trees. (One of the authors muleteers in Palestine was named Ab Zeitn, father of olives.)

And after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel, and he judged Israel ten years.’

These judges remind us that judges were needed in times of peace as well as in war. They are mentioned to make up the twelve. It may well be that little was known of them but their names. ‘Ten years.’ Possibly indicating ‘a number of years’, and a satisfactory judgeship.

Elon, meaning "oak, terebinth," also lived in Zebulun, though archaeologists have not yet discovered his town, Aijalon.
