A thing most holy – literally, a holy of holies. All offerings were holy, including the portions of the peace-offerings which were eaten by the laity; but that was most holy of which every part was devoted either to the altar, or to the use of the priests. Such were the minchaahs, the showbread, the incense, and the flesh of the sin-offerings and trespass-offerings. Compare the similar distinction between places Exo 26:33. The most holy food was eaten in the holy place, that is the precinct of the tabernacle, probably in the priests lodgings; but the priests portion of the peace-offerings might be eaten by the priests and their families in any clean place Lev 10:12-14.

Aarons and his sons, to be eaten by them, Lev 6:16. i.e. Most holy, or such as were to be eaten only by the priests, and that only in the. holy place near the altar. See Lev 6:26; 7:6,9; 21:22.

3. the remnant of the meat offeringshall be Aaron’s and his sons’The circumstance of a portion ofit being appropriated to the use of the priests distinguishes thisfrom a burnt offering. They alone were to partake of it within thesacred precincts, as among “the most holy things.”

And the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aaron’s and his sons’,…. Which not only shows the care taken by the Lord for the maintenance of the priests, from whence the apostle argues for the support of ministers of the Gospel, 1Co 9:13 but denotes that such who are made priests unto God by Christ, have a right to feed upon Christ the meat offering by faith; who is that altar and meat offering, which none but such have a right to eat of:

it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the Lord made by fire; some offerings with the Jews were only holy things, or, as they call them, “light” holy things, comparatively speaking; others were heavy holy things, or most holy; or, as it is in the original, “holiness of holiness”, the most holy of all.

(3) And the remnant. With the exception of the memorial or the handful of flour and oil, and of all the frankincense, this meat offering belonged to the priests, who divided it among them, and by whom alone it was to be consumed in the court of the sanctuary.

A thing most holy. The offerings consisted of two classes, less holy and most holy. The thank offerings (Lev. 23:20; Num. 6:20), the firstborn of clean sacrificed animals (Num. 18:17), the firstlings of oil, wine, and corn, and the paschal sacrifices, belonged to the less holy, and might be eaten entirely or partially in any clean place within the holy city by the officiating priests and their families (Lev. 10:12-14). The incense offering, the shew-bread (Exo. 30:26; Lev. 24:9), the sin and trespass offerings (Lev. 6:25-28; Lev. 7:1; Lev. 7:6; Lev. 14:13, &c.), and the meat offerings here described, belonged to the most holy class. They could only be eaten in the court of the sanctuary by the priests alone.

3. The remnant shall be Aaron’s Abundant provision was made for the support of the priesthood out of the tithes and offerings. St. Paul insists that Christianity is not surpassed by Judaism in this particular. 1Co 9:13-14. Hence, when, through the decline of piety and the growth of avarice, the offerings are withheld, the service of God’s house languishes, and the ministers at the altar are driven to secular employments. Neh 13:10.

A thing most holy Everything offered to Jehovah was holy, but the portion reserved for his representatives, the priests, was most holy, and it must not be burnt, (Lev 10:17,) but eaten either in the holy place by the priests alone, or in a clean place by their families. Lev 6:25, note; Lev 10:14. Eating by the priests symbolizes the complete acceptance of any thing on the part of Jehovah. Consuming by the altar-fire, is another mode of acceptance.

The presentation to the priest no doubt meant to imply, that all is the LORD’S. So in the gospel, the same is read to us in every ordinance; CHRIST is all, and in all. Of thine own LORD do we give thee. 1Co 9:13 ; Num 18:12 .
