And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it [is] a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

Ye shall do no work in that same day,…. No more than on the weekly sabbath:
for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God: [See comments on Le 16:30]; Aben Ezra’s note is,
“for you only,”
that is, for the Israelites, and not the Gentiles; but the atonement of Christ, the antitype of this, was not for the sins of the Jews only, but for the sins of the whole world, of all his people in it, 1Jo 2:2.

(28) And ye shall do no work.Better, And ye shall do no manner of work, as the Authorised version has it in Lev. 23:31 of this very chapter. (See Lev. 16:29.) This is the only day which had to be kept like the sabbath, and on which no manner of work was allowed. (See Lev. 23:3.)
