A lamb – A sheep. The word signifies a full-grown sheep, in its prime.

If he offer a lamb for his offering,…. Which was of the flock, and must be of the first year; this is a rule laid down by Maimonides i, that where ever this word is used in the law, it signifies one of the first year:

then shall he offer it before the Lord; bring it into the court, and present it to the priest.

Verses 7-11:

The requirements for the offering of a lamb as a Peace Offering are the same as those for the bull or cow, and the goat – with one additional stipulation: the “whole rump” (literally, the “fat tail”) of the sheep was to be included in the burnt portion of the sacrifice.

The portion offered upon the altar and consumed by fire, symbolizes that part which God “ate” or consumed. The entire offering symbolizes the festive joy and peace of communion with God.

(7) A lamb.Better, a sheep, as it is rendered in Lev. 1:10; Lev. 7:23; Lev. 22:19; Lev. 22:27, &c, since the word denotes a full-grown sheep.
