Also from the house of Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: for the singers had built them villages round about Jerusalem.
29. from the house of Gilgal ] R.V. from Beth-gilgal. Possibly to be identified with the Gilgal of 2Ki 2:1; 2Ki 4:38, and if so it was about 14 miles N. of Jerusalem.

Also from the house of Gilgal,…. Which likewise was in a champaign country in the plains of Jericho, De 11:30,
and out of the fields of Geba; which was a Levitical city in the tribe of Benjamin, Jos 21:17
and Azmaveth; the same with Bethazmaveth, Ne 7:28 where it follows Anathoth and Netophah, as it does in Ezr 2:24, and was very probably in the tribe of Benjamin:
for the singers had builded them villages round about Jerusalem; that they might be near it, to do their duty when required; by which it appears that the said places were near Jerusalem.

Neh 12:29-30. The singers had built them villages, &c. That they might be near at hand for the service of God and of his house. The priests and the Levites purified themselves By sprinkling the water of purification upon them, by which the tabernacle and sacred utensils were purified; (Num 8:7;) by solemn prayers and sacrifices; and especially by keeping themselves from all impurity.
