JUNE BIBLE STUDIES

Throughout the month of June we will study the book of Deuteronomy. Although we skipped much of Exodus, Numbers, and Leviticus, we will review the highlights of those books in the first few chapters of Deuteronomy.

Deuteronomy is one of the most important books of the Bible since it sets forth in a full way the covenant God made with Israel. John Calvin preached more than 200 sermons from Deuteronomy. He contended that in this book God demonstrates to society the meaning and importance of justice and righteousness. Although God was addressing old covenant Israel (and thus not everything can be literally applied today), we gain wisdom and insight for our culture by studying God’s covenant model for that society.

Additionally, Deuteronomy holds stirring challenges to heartfelt love for God, calling believers to faithfully trust Him. As you study this month, may the Holy Spirit help you understand God’s covenantal love for His people, and the corresponding obligation of God’s people to live Coram Deo—to love and serve Him with all their heart, soul, and strength.
