So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

3-8. Argob was the capital of adistrict in Bashan of the same name, which, together with otherfifty-nine cities in the same province, were conspicuous for theirlofty and fortified walls. It was a war of extermination. Houses andcities were razed to the ground; all classes of people were put tothe sword; and nothing was saved but the cattle, of which an immenseamount fell as spoil into the hands of the conquerors. Thus, the twoAmorite kings and the entire population of their dominions wereextirpated. The whole country east of the Jordanfirst upland downsfrom the torrent of the Arnon on the south to that of the Jabbok onthe north; next the high mountain tract of Gilead and Bashan from thedeep ravine of Jabbokbecame the possession of the Israelites.

This victory was considered so important (as no doubt it was) that we find the church celebrating it in a song of praise in one Psalm, and echoing to the same again in another. See Psa 125:5 , and Psa 126:6 .
