blot out their name, etc.] Deu 29:20, Deu 25:19: cp. synonym in Deu 7:24 q.v. Not in Exo 32:10.

a nation mightier and greater ] Expansion of great nation, Exo 32:10. This whole v. is illustrative of the expansive style of D. Bertholet sees the immediate continuation of the v. in Deu 10:10 and points out how excellently Deu 9:15 follows on Deu 9:12. This would account for the omission of Moses’ first intercession while still on the Mount, Exo 32:11-14.

Let me alone, that I may destroy them,…. Do not say one word to me on their behalf, or entreat me to spare them, and not destroy them:
