But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.
30. If they refused to join the rest of Israel in their battles, then, as a punishment, they must be forced, with their families and flocks, to live on the west of Jordan.

30. Possessions in Canaan If the tribes of Reuben and Gad persisted in detaching their military power from that of the nation, then they were to be compelled to go over the Jordan with their families, and to be permanently located there as a safeguard against secession.
