Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Numbers 35:7
[So] all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites [shall be] forty and eight cities: them [shall ye give] with their suburbs.
So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty eight cities,…. Of these forty eight cities, their names, and what tribes they were in, and which of them were particularly cities of refuge, an account is given in Jos 21:10:
them shall ye give, with their suburbs; according to the dimensions before prescribed.

Though the LORD made so plentiful a provision for his priests, yet it should be observed, and carefully observed too, that the LORD set bounds to it. Ministers were never intended to lord it over GOD’S heritage, or to abound in carnal things, while supposed to be principally engaged in spiritual. See Paul’s beautiful example on this point, Act 20:33-35 ; Phi 4:11-13 .

Num 35:7 [So] all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites [shall be] forty and eight cities: them [shall ye give] with their suburbs.
Ver. 7. Shall be forty and eight cities. ] Thus the Levites were dispersed throughout the land for instruction of the people; so ought ministers of the gospel, who are fitly called the salt of the earth, that being sprinkled up and down, may keep the rest (as flesh) from rotting and putrifying.

forty and eight cities. Compare Jos 21:11. So was Gen 49:5, Gen 49:7 fulfilled, that Levi should be “divided in Jacob and scattered in Israel”. At first a curse, but changed to a blessing on account of Exo 32:26, Exo 32:29.
