And he shall show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
12. upper room ] The usual place of resort for large gatherings in a Jewish house; probably the very room which also witnessed the appearance of the Risen Christ to the Twelve, and the Descent of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost.
furnished ] with divans, cushions, &c. Eze 23:41 (LXX.); Act 9:34 (Greek).

there make ready. The Ethiopic version adds, “for us”, as in
Mr 14:15. The Persic version renders it, “there prepare a place”; but this was prepared already; the words design the preparation of the passover, and every thing proper for it.

1) “And he shall show you a large upper room furnished:” (kakeinos humin deiksei anagaion mega estromenon) “And that man (house-master) will show you a large, private, upper room that has already been spread,” or one with carpets, that is comfortably prepared for guests, as an hospitality room, Mar 14:15.
2) “There make ready.” (hetoimasate) “You all prepare,” the passover feast there, Mar 14:15.

“And he will show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready.”
This description would suggest that Jesus had already seen the room, and was satisfied as to its suitability. Once they arrived there they were to make all the necessary preparations for the Passover meal.
‘A large upper room.’ This would be built on top of the lower room and would be reached by steps from the outside.
‘Furnished.’ The word means ‘spread’, thus it refers to cushions or divans spread around ready for use for the meal.

Verse 12
Furnished. Many rooms were undoubtedly thus prepared in Jerusalem to accommodate the great number of strangers that were accustomed to resort to the city on such occasions.
Luke 22:13,14. These verses convey the impression very strongly, that it was the Passover which Jesus celebrated at this time with his disciples on what we should call Thursday evening, as he was crucified on the following day, which was the day before the Jewish Sabbath,–our Saturday. But, from several allusions in John s Gospel, particularly John 13:1,29,18:28,19:14, it would seem the Passover was not celebrated by the Jews till the following day, that is, Friday. Several ingenious hypotheses have been advanced by the learned to account for this discrepancy. It is, perhaps, on the whole, most probable that the allusions in John refer not to the eating of the paschal lamb, which took place on the first evening, but to the services of the remaining seven days, during which the feast of the passover continued. Some, not satisfied with this explanation, suppose that Jesus anticipated the time one day, on account of his approaching crucifixion.
